Meet the team
Mrs Barbara Defeo
Manager | Diploma in Pre-school Practice
First Aider, S.E.N Coordinator, Designated Safeguarding Lead.
“I was first involved with the Pre-school back in 1985 when my daughter started here. Over the years I was a volunteer and then worked part-time. In 1996 it became Ladybirds, so I decided to do my Diploma in Childcare and took on the role of manager. I have taught many children through the years – some are now bringing their children here. I am proud to be part of a brilliant team who make this an exciting place for children to learn.

I started working in childcare 14 years ago as a volunteer to help with my son’s additional needs. This ignited a passion for wanting to work with children on a permanent basis helping them to learn and develop.I had previously worked with children aged 5-11 but decided to work towards my level 3 diploma in EYFS because I have a real interest in shaping young minds at a young age.“Although I am there to teach the children, each day I learn something new from them”.
Miss Kylie Brown
Pre-School Assistant | Level 3 Diploma in Childcare
First Aider
I began working with pre-school aged children in 2014 obtaining my level 3 diploma in childcare in 2017. Since qualifying I have continued to work within the early years sector with experience of working with children from 6 months up to primary school age. I have previously worked as a key-worker, room manager and general early years practitioner within a special needs centre. I continue to broaden my knowledge through on the job experience and a range of further training. I am passionate about my role and strive to support each individual child so that they can reach their full potential and flourish on their pre-school journey.

I started working at Ladybirds in January 2003 when both my children started school. I feel privileged in knowing the children and their families and being involved in their educational journey.

Before becoming a Mum, I was a member of the Armed forces for 13.5 years. I decided to leave the forces in 2013 so I could look after my young children who both subsequently attended Ladybirds. I feel extremely lucky to be able to work in such a wonderful environment with a very professional, friendly and passionate team.
